Abu Dhabi Police to Cooperate with the British University of Salford to Rehabilitate Juveniles

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates--()--Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) discussed ways to promote cooperation with the British University of Salford regarding rehabilitation programs for juveniles.

In a ceremony held at the Juvenile Care Center in Abu Dhabi, Brigadier Ahmed Mohammed Nehkairah Al Mahrami, Head of Human Rights Department, Chairman of the Juvenile Care Center’s Steering Committee, said, “It gives me great pleasure to announce this valuable cooperation between ADP and the University of Salford…we can always benefit from the professional expertise of our international peers - which is why we chose the prestigious University of Salford to help us achieve this goal.”

Rabab Al Ameri, Director of Social Education Home, welcomed the work team and expressed the Ministry of Social Affairs’ delight about the cooperation, and said, “We hope that this step will yield valuable benefits to the targeted segment of juvenile delinquents, commensurate with the UAE’s policy to provide care to all sectors of society.”

Professor Maggie Pearson, Deputy Director of the University of Salford, Dean of the College of Health & Social Care, said the primary task of the highly qualified team of criminal research and social psychology experts is to transfer the expertise and competencies to their Emirati counterparts. “The University of Salford’s team will fulfill their mission in the best possible way, commensurate with the university’s vision to empower, rehabilitate, and integrate juveniles back into society. We wish to help others understand the importance of this valuable humanitarian task,” she said.

The ceremony was attended by: Colonel Mohammed Saif Matar Al Zaabi, Head of the Punitive and Correctional Establishments Department at Abu Dhabi Police; Ray Hill, Director of the Salford University Project; Dr. Moran, International Clinical Psychologist; Director of the Social Education Home for Boys and Girls; Director of Educational Care Center; branch managers; and a number of officers and academics from the university.
