Two Exelis employees inducted into AOC Technology Hall of Fame

AOC 2014

CLIFTON, N.J.--()--Two Exelis (NYSE:XLS) engineers have been honored by the Association of Old Crows (AOC) for their career-spanning contributions to the development of electronic warfare (EW) technology. As the world’s leading EW industry association, the AOC’s recognition underscores the substantial role the two Exelis employees have played in advancing the field of electronic warfare.

Anthony Leopardi, senior principal systems engineer in Amityville, New York, and John Staudenmeier, principal systems engineer in Clifton, New Jersey, were inducted into the AOC’s Technology Hall of Fame at the AOC Annual Symposium, Oct. 7-9, in the District of Columbia.

Staudenmeier began his career with Exelis in 1983, after having served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He has worked on a range of Exelis EW systems but received this honor specifically for his system integration and flight-test support on the ALQ-214. The ALQ-214 is the jamming subsystem in the IDECM (Integrated Defensive Electronic Countermeasures) electronic self-protection suite for Navy F/A-18s.

Leopardi has been with Exelis for 38 years. An expert in radar, threat analysis and jamming countermeasures, he supports the B-1B AN/ALQ-161A and Advanced Capability Pod (ACaP) systems. By analyzing and characterizing foreign radars and supporting development of new jamming techniques, Leopardi helps enhance crew and aircraft survivability.

“Anthony and John have made invaluable contributions to the advancement of EW. They are the third and fourth hall of fame inductees from Exelis within the last three years,” said Rich Sorelle, corporate vice president and president of Exelis Electronic Systems. “Their accomplishments help Exelis to continue pushing the boundaries of EW, producing reliable technologies that keep users safe and ahead of emerging threats.”

The AOC is a global professional EW and information operations association that promotes electromagnetic spectrum operations and related military, civilian and commercial applications. The Technology Hall of Fame, established in 2001, recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves as innovators and have made significant contributions to the advancement of EW.

Exelis EW technologies are designed to enable domestic and international customers to perform their critical missions. Leveraging its decades of innovation and experience in the electromagnetic spectrum, Exelis has identified EW as one of the company’s four strategic growth platforms.
