HTC Partners with Trustonic To Enable Trust Enhanced Services on Connected Devices

Collaboration provides security platform for innovative mobile services

LONDON--()--Trustonic, the leading provider of Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs) for smart devices, today announced a collaboration with HTC, a global leader in innovation and design. HTC will use the Trustonic ‹t™-base TEE to deliver a platform on which service providers can develop enriched, simplified and expanded user experiences. HTC connected devices incorporating ‹t™-base will be available from Q1 2015.

Trustonic and HTC are taking an innovative approach to radically simplifying mobile user experiences by enabling content protection for any content on any screen, integrating higher levels of trust for Enterprise applications in a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) world, and by supporting new and emerging m-commerce services.

The partnership will bring important new capabilities to HTC devices, including secure biometrics and a Trusted User Interface. These capabilities are designed to simplify user authentication by providing better protection against the threats posed by malicious software while also providing the means for service providers to establish confidence with users that services they are trying to access are genuine and reciprocally that a users request for access, information or transaction approval is actually happening on that user’s device.

“Our partnership with Trustonic is an important part of our mobile strategy, as security and convenience have become a differentiator for carriers and providers of mobile services,” said Drew Bamford, Corporate Vice President of Creative Labs at HTC. “HTC users will be able to enjoy quick and effortless authentication to their digital lives.”

Ben Cade, CEO of Trustonic, said: “Trustonic’s partnership with HTC is underpinned by the need for a simpler, quicker and safer device experience that will enhance the digital lives of users. Security needs to be simple and effective, in any context. Trustonic makes it quick and easy for service providers and developers to add trust-enhanced services and to enrich the way people shop, work and view premium content.”

About TEE

The Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) is a secure area that resides in the application processor of an electronic device. Separated by hardware from the main operating system, the TEE ensures the secure storage and processing of sensitive data and trusted applications. The TEE enables mobile operators and developers to provide a new set of secure services, and is designed to protect applications and data from software-based attacks. Services can be protected from the cloud to the device to the user, including interactions with touchscreens, displays and fingerprint sensors.
