While many restaurant brands continue to face slow growth in traffic, Fazoli’s franchisees saw guest counts increase 2.8% last month. Average check grew 2.1%. For the year, traffic is up 1.9%, with average check 3.6% higher.

“Fazoli’s franchisees are giving guests a great experience and outstanding value every day, and that is being reflected in their traffic and sales,” said Carl Howard, Fazoli’s president and CEO. He added that franchisees, which own approximately half of the brand’s locations, are helping Fazoli’s achieve guest service and value ratings that also rank above its competitors.

“The combination of innovative, new limited-time menu offers, including the current Stuffed Pasta Selects, our service style that features table service and our new restaurant design all create a unique experience guests cannot get elsewhere at our price point,” Howard said.

With current franchisees reporting same-store sales increases 50 of the last 53 months, and with over one-third of the franchisees setting historical annual unit volumes over the last year, there is strong interest among prospective franchisees. Fazoli’s recently signed a deal for two new units in Kentucky, as well as an agreement with World Franchise Associates to secure franchise development in Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.

“Fazoli’s is very attractive to a wide variety of operators because the concept works so well in different settings,” Howard said. He added that Fazoli’s first franchised college campus restaurant opens October 1 at Texas Tech University. In total, Fazoli’s has commitments for 15 new franchised restaurants, including several travel center locations.

Founded in Lexington, Ky., in 1988, Fazoli’s was acquired by Sun Capital Partners in 2006.
