Esmark Industrial Group Acquires Former Pittsburgh Annealing Box Company Assets

Esmark, Inc. Subsidiary’s Acquisition of Steel Fabrication and Repairs Provider to Expand Services Portfolio to Metals and Heavy Industries

PITTSBURGH--()--Esmark Industrial Group, a metals fabrication and manufacturing subsidiary of Esmark, Inc., today announced that it has completed its acquisition of the assets of one of the most storied names in steel industry services — Pittsburgh Annealing Box, Inc. Terms of the multi-million dollar transaction were not disclosed.

Founded in 1893, Pittsburgh Annealing Box, Inc. has conducted business under the name KMA Manufacturing since 2003, relocating to the company’s current location in Vanport, Pennsylvania in 2005. The new entity, which is a unit of Esmark Excalibur, LLC, will be operated as Excalibur Machine & Fabrication – Vanport.

Located northwest of Pittsburgh in Vanport, PA, the newly-acquired assets feature 65,000 square-feet of manufacturing facilities with 100-ton lifting capacity. Esmark Industrial Group expects to restore the operations to their former status as a world-class supplier of maintenance, steel fabrication and repair solutions to the steel and metals industries. In addition, the company anticipates leveraging Esmark Excalibur’s expertise and customer base serving the energy, oil and gas, transportation and heavy equipment industries to expand the Vanport facility’s product offerings.

Dave Luptak, CEO of Esmark Industrial Group, said the strategic acquisition of the Vanport facility will provide an excellent complement to Excalibur’s existing operations. “Combined with our ASME-certified manufacturing facility and 100-ton lifting capacity, the addition of the former Pittsburgh Annealing Box assets will significantly enhance our ability to provide customers with a full range of steel processing, machining, fabricating and assembly services.”

Excalibur Machine & Fabrication is a precision machining and fabrication company that manufactures and supplies parts, components and sub-assemblies to OEMs such as GE Transportation, Riley Power, and JLG Industries, Inc. Located in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Excalibur also maintains machining and fabricating facilities in Conneaut Lake and Linesville.

KMA Manufacturing is a subsidiary of Marubeni Corporation, one of Japan’s leading trading firms with a world-wide business network.

Luptak said that the new facility will employ 37 of the former KMA employees, adding to Excalibur’s existing workforce of approximately 110 employees, most of them located at Excalibur’s Meadville, Conneaut Lake and Linesville, PA facilities.
