ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Machinery and Firearms Section at the Forensic Evidence Department showcased the Mobile Ballistic Laboratory for the first time as part of its participation at the 2014 Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX).
The Mobile Laboratory was designed in response to the directives of the police leadership to provide Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) with the latest devices and equipment to enhance and ensure that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi as a haven of safety and security for citizens and residents alike.
The Mobile Laboratory is the latest state-of-the-art addition to the Integrated Ballistics Identification System (IBIS) at the local, regional and international levels.
Colonel Abdul Rahman Al Hammadi, Head of the Forensic Evidence Department at ADP, said, “The Mobile Laboratory operates efficiently in terms of firearms and ammunition testing, samples for the IBIS, and is the world’s first of its kind.”
Captain expert Jassim Al Manout, Director of the Weapons and Ammunition Quality Inspection Center at the Forensic Evidence Department, said, “ADP aspire to link and exchange collected data with the database of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol).”
Captain Khalid Al Maamari, Chief of the Machinery and Firearms Section, said, “The Laboratory is a 25-meter bulletproof trailer equipped with a myriad of testing and surveillance systems, a separate soundproof wheelbase cargo bed, and a water recovery tank to recover bullet fragments and cartridge cases.”
In the same context, Lieutenant Abdulla Al Kaabi, forensics technician, said, “The shooting range can be used for training purposes. The water recovery tank is used to compare striation similarities and match bullets to specific firearms used in criminal cases. The Laboratory is a timesaver for technical firearms examination, and the convenient mobility allows for onsite testing in addition to providing security for VIPs when necessary.”
