New York Institute of Finance to Boost Capital Markets Education in Trinidad and Tobago

NYIF to deliver educational training to students and professionals through the University of Trinidad and Tobago and the Trinidad and Tobago International Financial Centre

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad--()--The Trinidad and Tobago International Financial Centre (Trinidad and Tobago IFC), the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) and the New York Institute of Finance (NYIF) announced a new partnership today to boost financial education in Trinidad and Tobago as the country develops into a regional financial centre.

The Trinidad and Tobago IFC was established to build a strong financial services industry by attracting foreign direct investment in the sector and by creating sustainable employment. As part of this mandate, the company is investing in educational resourcing to equip the next generation of leaders with best-in-class, outsourced educational opportunities. As technology has changed over the years with the evolving global environment, so have the human resource needs of the country. As the national university, the UTT is developing a highly trained and qualified technological manpower base and was therefore selected as the most appropriate partner tertiary-level institution to implement this program.

The NYIF, one of America’s oldest and most prestigious financial services educational providers will work with the Trinidad and Tobago IFC later this year to provide courses on a range of financial markets through UTT. This will give current university students and recent graduates the opportunity to learn from some of NYIF’s faculty, which includes some of America’s most preeminent experts in their fields including Claudia Crowley, the former CEO of NYSE Regulation and leading author and educator, John Palicka.

According to Varun Maharaj, CEO, Trinidad and Tobago IFC, the partnership will assist in expanding the skillset of the country’s growing pool of world-class, financial services professionals, with modules to be offered on topics and issues not currently available at UTT.

“We are striving to make Trinidad and Tobago the gateway to capital markets in the Caribbean and Latin America. Our geography and well-educated, English-speaking population makes this a very achievable goal but we’re aiming to foster and empower local students with world-class educational opportunities so that they can play a role in our plan. We are delighted to be working with NYIF and believe this partnership will enable us to provide education and training on the most pressing and important topics related to capital markets from the best educators in the industry,” Maharaj said.

Claudia Crowley and John Palicka will deliver an intensive five-day course on international capital markets, regulation and compliance. Claudia will teach the first day on regulation, and John will deliver the following four days on international capital markets. Claudia previously served as the CEO of NYSE Regulation and Chief Regulatory Officer of each of the NYSE Euronext U.S. securities exchanges. John is a respected financial services executive with more than 30 years’ experience and is currently the president of Global Emerging Growth Capital. He is also the author of “Fusion Analysis” and an esteemed financial educator. The next course on the training calendar will be a core skills analyst program with an accounting boot camp.

Lee Arthur, Managing Director, New York Institute of Finance & Execsense said that NYIF is proud to play a role in building a strong financial educational framework for Trinidad and Tobago. He further commented, “We have a long history and track record in providing the most relevant and up-to-date educational tools and programmes in the market. This arrangement marks another important milestone in promoting high levels of financial education across the globe.”
