Schlotzsky’s Teams with JDRF for Step Up! National Fundraising Campaign

Home of The Original® Sandwich Drives Donations While Giving Back to Guests

AUSTIN, Texas--()--Schlotzsky's knows the value of a dollar and is making use of it through the month of September. The popular home of The Original® oven-baked sandwich is launching a month-long charity drive with JDRF, the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research, and will reward guests who give back with discounts on food.

Step Up! For JDRF

Schlotzsky’s Step Up! Campaign, features a “Give $1, Get $1” system-wide promotion, which offers guests a coupon for $1 off their next Schlotzsky’s purchase for every $1 they donate to JDRF through September 28. A new addition this year, participating Schlotzsky’s locations will host a National Fundraising Night Tuesday, Sept. 9, donating 15 percent of all sales from 5-8 p.m. directly to JDRF. Schlotzsky’s aims to raise $200,000 this year, which would total more than $500,000 raised through the partnership in just three years.

“September is really a win-win month for our loyal guests, who can feel good about coming into our restaurants,” said Kelly Roddy, president of Schlotzsky’s. “JDRF is a cause that’s close to our hearts and we’re excited to raise money while offering a significant value for families looking to save money during this busy time of year.”

As the largest charitable supporter of type 1 diabetes research, JDRF is currently sponsoring $568 million in scientific research in 17 countries. In 2012 alone, JDRF provided more than $110 million to T1D research.

Pick 2 is For You!

Guests can redeem the coupons earned from donating to JDRF for any entrée, including more than 1,600 Pick 2 is for You! combinations available under $8. Pick 2 is For You is a great value option that is featured through the month of September and available year round. It offers the choice of any two of the following: half medium oven-baked sandwich, half gourmet pizza, half Artisan flatbread, half fresh-tossed salad or bowl of signature soup.

New on the menu this fall are soup toppers that bring exciting new flavors to Schlotzsky’s homemade soups, including:

  • Potato with Bacon Soup topped with cheddar cheese, bacon bits and green onions
  • Tomato Basil Soup topped with basil pesto and parmesan cheese
  • Chicken Tortilla Soup topped with tri-color tortilla strips
  • Chili with Beans topped with cheddar cheese, red onion & jalapeño
