LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Concord Law School of Kaplan University, the nation’s first fully-online law school, held its 22nd graduation today at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. The graduating class included 34 graduates of the Juris Doctor program and 23 graduates who earned an Executive Juris Doctor degree.
In her keynote address, Deborah A. David told the graduates, “The education you’ve received in this law school has equipped you with a way of thinking, questioning, analyzing, and solving problems that will prove a powerful tool in anything you choose to do either professionally or personally, and that’s a guarantee!” Ms. David is an international mediator who also served as the first woman president of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (formerly the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association). She currently works in the United Kingdom for the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR), one of the largest conflict management and resolution consultancies in the world.
Several students were recognized for awards at the ceremony. Award winners included Deborah Hogan (of Ellsworth, ME), Nathan Madsen (of Trinidad, CA), Marissa Slocum (of Union Springs, NY), and Lisa Warren (of La Mesa, CA) all of whom received the Kaplan Award for Legal Services. The Executive Juris Doctor Award for Academic Excellence went to Moni Rosenberger (of Story City, IA). Deborah Hogan (of Ellsworth, ME) received the Jack R. Goetz Award for Academic Excellence, which recognizes the JD graduate who achieved the highest cumulative grade point average. Finally, the Sue Lane Award, honoring one student from the graduating class who embodies a strong work ethic, compassionate nature and service to the community, was given to Cynthia Moore Lambert (of Norfolk, VA).
At the close of the ceremony, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark Juhas swore in Kim Cameron and Cameron Bucher, both winter 2014 alumni who recently passed the California Bar Exam.
