Diamond Resorts International Brand Ambassador and Superbowl XXVI MVP Wins American Century Championship

Superbowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien finishes strong in the 25th annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship to clench another victory for local and national charities, and Diamond Resorts

LAS VEGAS--()--Superbowl XXVI MVP Mark Rypien, brand ambassador for Diamond Resorts International® (NYSE: DRII), a global leader in the hospitality and vacation ownership industries, wins the title at the 25th annual American Century Celebrity Golf Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nev.

In a classic comeback, Rypien played through inclement weather to edge out celebrity opponents Jeremy Roenick and Annika Sorenstam for a break through win for the first time since 1990, when he won the title in the tournament’s inaugural year. Rypien had 76 total stableford points over the course of the three day event, including shooting a final round 67 that included finishing with an eagle followed by two birdies on holes 16, 17 and 18.

An ambassador for Diamond Resorts, Rypien prominently displayed the company’s brand throughout the celebrity golf tournament.

“I can't thank Diamond Resorts enough for the tremendous hospitality during my stay at Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort,” said Mark Rypien. “My family and I felt at ease with the professionalism and kindness exemplified by Diamond Resorts’ team members. Although there was stress and excitement on the golf course, I was able to focus and concentrate each night I came home to the comforts of my suite.”

According to Michael Flaskey, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Diamond Resorts International®, “We congratulate Mark Rypien on his big victory last week. Mark is not only an incredibly talented athlete, but is also a testament to the hard work and commitment to excellence that we passionately deliver every day at Diamond Resorts International®.”

Rypien is a significant contributor to local and national charitable organizations. In addition to his recent philanthropic efforts, Rypien also participated in the 2013 Diamond Resorts International® Brian Gay Invitational, a celebrity/amateur charity golf tournament, to help raise funds for Florida Hospital for Children.
