SYRACUSE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Systems Made Simple, Inc., a leading provider of IT systems and services to support critical architecture, data and application challenges in the healthcare industry, today announced that Chief Medical Information Officer Dr. Viet Nguyen has been elected to its board of directors. As a member of the board, Dr. Nguyen will work with Systems Made Simple’s executive leadership team to oversee key decisions regarding the company’s strategies around providing integrated technology to improve continuity of care and patient safety.

Since joining Systems Made Simple in November 2011, Dr. Nguyen has served as chief medical information officer, providing subject matter expertise to clients in standardizing terminology services as well as supporting the company’s research and innovation program on product development. Dr. Nguyen is an advisor on healthcare IT strategies for executive leaders and has proven to be vital in supporting Systems Made Simple’s customers. He also actively represents Systems Made Simple in relationships with academic institutions, professional societies and standards development organizations.

Dr. Nguyen is a board-certified clinical informaticist as well as an internist and pediatrician with more than a decade of clinical and informatics experience. He trained as a medical informatics fellow at the Salt Lake City Veterans Administration (VA) Medical Center and in the department of biomedical informatics at the University of Utah. From 2003 to 2013, Dr. Nguyen served as a clinical terminologist supporting VA data standardization efforts including the development, implementation and maintenance of standard terminologies such as SNOMED-CT, LOINC and NDF-RT. During that time, he maintained a full-time inpatient and outpatient medical practice. Dr. Nguyen resides in Salt Lake City, Utah with his wife and three children.
