LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pasadena Magazine’s seventh annual Top Doctors issue has recognized 135 physicians from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Medical Group as the best in their profession who practice in the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles area.
“CHLA has more doctors on the 2014 list than any other pediatric medical facility in the region,” says Richard D. Cordova, FACHE, president and CEO, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. “This is a great honor for our physicians because the recognition is bestowed on them by their medical peers. It confirms that our doctors provide the best care to our patients every day, and we are gratified that they have been acknowledged for their clinical excellence.”
For the second year in a row, CHLA placed more than 130 physicians on the esteemed list, which includes doctors from 27 specialty areas and 25 CHLA clinical divisions, including hematology-oncology, orthopaedics, cardiology, endocrinology, ophthalmology, neurology, neurosurgery and adolescent medicine, among others. Many of these areas have been ranked among the best pediatric specialty departments in the nation by the U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital Survey for 2014-15. Overall, CHLA is ranked fifth in the nation among pediatric medical facilities.
To develop the list, Pasadena Magazine sent sample ballots to physicians in the medical community, announcing the voting process and its secure voting website. Doctors from the San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles area voted online for the most esteemed physician in their own specialty areas. The online votes were tabulated and physician credentials were verified by an independent law firm.
Many of the CHLA physicians honored this year have been selected for this distinction in previous surveys, demonstrating the skill and talent of the physicians in the CHLA Medical Group. In addition, most hold an academic affiliation with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.
This year’s honorees also included physician staff from CHLA’s outpatient center in the San Gabriel Valley, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles—Arcadia, with nearly 90 percent of the center’s physicians making the list. Just a block north of “Restaurant Row” in Arcadia, off the Huntington Drive exit on the 210 Freeway, this medical facility supports 7,500 patient visits annually, providing San Gabriel Valley families access to the same expert physicians who care for children at our nationally renowned main campus. Specialty outpatient services offered at the Arcadia Outpatient Center include: allergy and immunology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology-oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics, otolaryngology, surgery and urology. The center will be offering neurology services starting Aug. 1 and also offers laboratory and radiological services on site.
Children’s Hospital Los Angeles does more to make its award-winning care available to families and children across the greater Los Angeles area through three other pediatric outpatient centers in neighborhood locations: Children’s Hospital Los Angeles—Valencia, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles—South Bay and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles—Santa Monica. Of the physicians staffing those facilities, nearly 70 percent earned positions on the Top Docs list. The Santa Monica center is CHLA’s newest outpatient facility, opening its doors in 2013. It’s staffed by nine physicians who are Board-certified in seven specialties and subspecialties including, gastroenterology, endocrinology-metabolism, hematology-oncology, medical genetics, neurology, plastic and maxillofacial surgery and urology. Pediatric Surgery specialists will be added to the Santa Monica team this month. Orthopaedics care is offered at a nearby CHLA facility.
