Bulova Returning to Manhattan Roots with Relocation to Iconic Empire State Building

Leading Watch Brand Comes Home to Manhattan, the Fashion Capital of the World

WOODSIDE, N.Y.--()--Bulova, a world leader since 1875 in the engineering of timepieces and clocks, today announced it will relocate its corporate headquarters to a new 33,214-square-foot office in the iconic Empire State Building in Manhattan. Relocating from its current location in Woodside, Queens, the new Bulova headquarters will be fully operational by early 2015.

Founded by Joseph Bulova, Bulova was originally located on Maiden Lane in lower Manhattan, then the nucleus of New York City’s jewelry industry in the late 1800s. Since that time, it has moved its headquarters to Fifth Avenue in Manhattan and then to Woodside, Queens in 1954, where the company currently resides. With Bulova’s move to the 29th floor of the historic Empire State Building on Fifth Avenue, the company returns to its celebrated Manhattan roots.

“The relocation of our corporate headquarters to the Empire State Building comes on the heels of a period of tremendous positive change for Bulova. The new space is a perfect home for our expanding portfolio of watch brands and signifies a new period of growth for the company,” said Bulova Corporation President Gregory Thumm. “Moving back into the center of the fashion capital of the world provides us with a renewed sense of energy and creative spirit while honoring our company’s Manhattan origins.”

We’re delighted to welcome Bulova to the Empire State Building,” said Thomas P. Durels, Chief of Property Operations and Leasing for Empire State Realty Trust. “We believe that the respect for history, design and innovation that Bulova and the Empire State Building both share will make Bulova’s tenancy in the world’s most famous office building a huge success.”

Award-winning international architecture and interior design firm, Corgan, has been tasked with designing a space that reflects the open culture of Bulova, a component of the company’s DNA and mission statement. This will be reflected in a physical open floor plan to encourage creativity, as well as the sharing of ideas across departments. Bulova’s executive, design, brand management, marketing, sales and support departments will relocate to the new headquarters. Bulova will continue to use its current Queens location for warehousing purposes.
