Truven Health Analytics™ Reports Integration of Micromedex® Patient Education and Clinical Decision Support into EMR Systems is on the Rise in Support of Meaningful Use Attestation

Thus far in 2014, more than 300 Hospitals and dozens of Physician Practices Have Selected Micromedex® Patient Education, Drug, Lab and Disease content for seamless integration within many different HIS systems

ANN ARBOR, Mich.--()--Truven Health Analytics™ today announced a growing trend in the adoption of Micromedex evidence-based patient education, patient discharge instructions, patient engagement and Clinical Decision Support (CDS) resources, into its customers’ Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. This type of integration makes resources accessible to clinicians at the point of care, and supports Meaningful Use (MU) certification of EMR systems and hospital attestation for Stage I and Stage II incentive payments. Thus far in 2014, over 110 hospitals have purchased integrated solutions directly from Truven Health, including Micromedex CareNotes®, and CDS modules from the Micromedex Clinical Knowledge Suite such as Medication Instructions, Drug Information, Disease and Condition Information and Lab Recommendations. In addition, more than 200 hospitals and dozens of physician practices have chosen Micromedex content for integration from Truven Health’s partnership network.

“We partner with many of the industry’s leading HIS vendors, including Meditech, EPIC, GE Healthcare, McKesson and CPSI, among others, to ensure healthcare providers can efficiently and cost effectively meet the new standards for accessing Clinical Decision Support and Patient Education,” said August Calhoun, senior vice president and general manager of the Provider Solutions business of Truven Health Analytics. “We fundamentally believe the use of these resources can help reduce risk and elicit consistent and confident decisions to augment patient care. And, our customers trust our Micromedex resources because our commitment to the quality and completeness of our content has never wavered,” Calhoun continued. “The integration of these care-resources allows clinicians access — at the point of care — which helps them meet Meaningful Use objectives while delivering on the intent of the Meaningful Use regulations – to adopt evidence-based resources to improve patient outcomes.”

A selection of hospitals who receive integration-ready patient education and clinical content direct from Truven Health in the United States includes: Atlantic Health, Morristown NJ; Health First Inc., Melbourne FL; Conway Medical Center, Conway SC; JFK Health System, Edison NJ; Kings Daughters Medical Center, Ashland KY; Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, Brooklyn NY; Lutheran Health Network, Fort Wayne IN (an affiliate of Community Healthcare System); Halifax Health, Daytona FL; Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg VA; Mercy Medical Center, Canton OH; St. Dominic-Jackson Memorial Hospital, Jackson MS; St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island; New York City Hospital and Health Corporation, Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal IL; Allina Health, Minneapolis MN; Arkansas Children's Hospital, Little Rock AR; Children's Hospital Central California, Madera CA; Citizens Memorial Hospital, Bolivar MO; Community Memorial Hospital, Ventura CA; Kish Health System, DeKalb IL; Kootenai Medical Center, Coeur D’alene ID; Loretto Hospital, Chicago IL; Mount Sinai Hospital, Chicago IL; North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, Harrison AR; Trinity Mother Frances Health System, Tyler TX.

Acute care hospitals and physician practices leverage evidence-based Micromedex solutions to support Meaningful Use attestation for access to Patient Education and CDS resources. CareNotes patient discharge instructions, in addition to other CDS content and educational and instructive documents, can be integrated directly into the EMR-workflow using many delivery formats and integration standards; including the most current version of Health Level Seven (HL7) context aware knowledge retrieval format leveraging the Infobutton® v3 standard.

“The seamless integration of Micromedex CareNotes into our MEDITECH EHR saves our staff time during patient encounters,” said Anne Marie Smith, Senior Clinical Informaticist, Halifax Health. “CareNotes allows them access to patient-specific educational materials — at the point of care — without disruption to the workflow to meet our quality and Meaningful Use objectives and to better serve our patient’s educational needs with consistent, relevant education. We know that the evidence-based information in CareNotes is accurate and based on, current clinical evidence which will help patients follow the appropriate steps to participate in their own care and recovery.”

Micromedex CareNotes, part of the Micromedex Patient Connect Suite, delivers evidence-based, comprehensive, and consistent patient health education and consumer health engagement resources for every stage of care, including: patient instructions, education materials and engagement resources for diagnosis and condition, medication, and laboratory tests, and advanced multi-media tools in multiple languages. In addition to patient education, the Suite includes complementary Consumer Health Education in multi-media and interactive resources for education and engagement. By integrating a single source of evidence-based education across multiple platforms, including embedding it in the hospital or practice EMR or a patient portal, access is extended to every care setting, to help engage patients while promoting clinical consistency across the care continuum. The tools are convenient, easy-to-use, and efficient for clinicians and patients.

Micromedex Clinical Knowledge Suite includes medication, disease and condition, laboratory recommendations, toxicology, and pediatric and neonatal clinical resources. These integrated resources are accessed seamlessly from vendor-specific systems and further help meet the MU attestation criteria. CDS resources help care-givers make informed and confident patient safety, medication, and care management decisions. Micromedex evidence-based resources are impeccably sourced, referenced in context, rigorously reviewed and updated, and are the industry standard for completeness and comprehensiveness.
