As AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the nation’s largest HIV/AIDS care provider, prepares to open two new service locations in Seattle this fall, the nonprofit will be making impressions in our community through both the Pride Parade and PrideFest at this weekend’s festivities, which mark the 40th year of LGBTQ Pride events in Seattle.

The Pride Parade – which begins at 11:00 am Sunday and proceeds down 4th Avenue from Union Street to Denny Way – will feature an AHF float displaying an inflatable replica of the Foundation’s Out of the Closet Thrift Stores donation pick-up truck. Seattle will be seeing these pink trucks roaming the streets beginning in September when AHF opens Washington State’s first Out of the Closet Thrift Store, where 96 cents of every dollar earned from the sale of gently used clothing, furniture, and knick knacks goes toward funding AHF’s specialized HIV/AIDS clinics in 34 countries around the world, which serve over 312,000 people with lifesaving treatment and care.

Following the parade, AHF Pharmacy will have an information booth at PrideFest in Seattle Center. AHF Pharmacy currently serves clients through a First Hill site on Cherry Street as well as a location in Capitol Hill. Like the thrift stores, 96 cents of every dollar earned through AHF Pharmacy sites – which can fill any prescription and offer door-to-door delivery of medications – funds global HIV/AIDS care.

The forthcoming opening this fall will be an all-in-one facility in Capitol Hill which houses the Out of the Closet Thrift Store – which also offers free walk-in HIV testing – alongside a new AHF Pharmacy that is just blocks from the current location on Union Street, keeping it easily accessible to current clients. Finally, Seattle’s first AHF Healthcare Center will also be operating out of the new facility.

“It is an honor to be part of the 40th annual celebration of LGBTQ pride in Seattle,” said Adam Ouderkirk, AHF’s Senior Director of Program and Business Development. “We are so excited to bring this new facility to the community near Pike Street. It will be much more visible to the public, offering a clear option for care to anyone who needs it, as well as an opportunity to help fight AIDS simply by using a particular thrift store or pharmacy. AHF is truly proud to serve the city of Seattle.”
