DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pitch-a-tent, cast a line, catch a frog, make a campfire, s’mores, count lightning bugs, sleep under stars; that’s how easy it is to make outdoor memories. As founding sponsor of Great Outdoors Month, The Coleman Company, Inc. is leading a national effort to encourage kids and families to spend more time camping outside and to create their own outdoor memories. Coleman’s $110,000 donation of camping gear benefits Scouts, Boys & Girls Club Chapters and State Parks’ first-time camper programs in five markets across the United States.
“We want to showcase the ease, excitement and affordability of camping through first-hand experiences. Coleman is proud to donate $110,000 of camping gear and equipment benefiting thousands of kids and families. We are providing a new access point for heightened outdoor activity and camping instantly builds cherished memories,” commented Dave Allen, President, Coleman USA. “Getting people outdoors means fun and healthy living resulting in less time spent on smart phones or in front of video consoles, computer and television screens.”
Coleman is determined to engage kids in camping and outdoor activities to foster a lifelong connection to the great outdoors. As a part of its sponsorship, Coleman is underwriting five camp-outs; four Capital Camp-Outs hosted by the Governors of Kansas, Colorado, Georgia and Washington at their residences or in a park close-by and one camp-out in northwest Arkansas at Pea Ridge NMP. Camp-Outs feature activities from setting camp, camp-side meals, sing-a-longs and star-gazing to ghost stories, night hikes and, of course, s’mores. Kids complete activities to earn “Junior Ranger” badges.
Casting a wider net to encourage people to get outside during Great Outdoors Month, Coleman is taking its message to the people via the Coleman “Ranger Days Tour.” From Salem (OR) to Bangor (ME), Coleman Rangers, former outdoor professionals, are setting camp at Walmart stores in 20 markets across the U.S. Coleman Rangers share insights on “how to,” “where to,” and “what you need to” camp, even providing a Camping Checklist.
“Coleman Rangers engage shoppers in conversation about the abundant outdoor resources available nearby and across the United States while also demonstrating equipment and offering personal insights.” Dave Allen explains, “We want to make camping attainable. The Ranger Days Tour helps people see how easy and affordable it is to go camping and then Coleman provides everything to help them get there.”
“For many years, Kansas State Parks’ First-time Campers program has successfully delivered new patrons and users to our state parks,” commented Linda Lanterman, Kansas State Parks Director. “Coleman’s leadership to encourage people to get outdoors and go camping benefits all of us. Partnerships are paramount to building the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts and park visitors. Great Outdoors Month delivers the message of fun outdoors helping us to combat the competition; the internet and video games. It’s time for the outdoors to reclaim its title as Americans’ favorite leisure time activity.”
