EWING, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Universal Display Corporation (Nasdaq: OLED), enabling energy-efficient displays and lighting with its UniversalPHOLED® technology and materials, today announced that it has received the prestigious Display Component of the Year Gold Award for its proprietary UniversalPHOLED green phosphorescent OLED emitter material at the 2014 Society for Information Display (SID) International Symposium, Seminar, and Exhibition.
The green PHOLED emitter builds on the successful commercialization of UDC’s red UniversalPHOLED emitter and is another step toward the Company’s goal of delivering an all-PHOLED solution. With an internal quantum efficiency close to 100%, PHOLED materials will drive wider adoption of OLED technology and greater growth in the display and lighting markets because they significantly reduce power consumption and lower heat emission compared to green fluorescent OLED materials. Based on these advantages, all current and future OLED products, including smartphones, tablets, TVs, and lighting panels, can benefit from the use of Universal Display’s green UniversalPHOLED materials.
“We are delighted to award UDC the 2014 Display Component of the Year Gold Honor for its green phosphorescent emitter material,” said Wei Chen, SID’s Display Industry Awards Committee Chairman. “The Display Industry Awards are SID’s highest honor, presented to recognize the best display products or applications introduced to the market during the previous calendar year. The quality and competitiveness of the nominations are extraordinarily high this year due to the significant technology breakthroughs we saw in many of the products introduced to the market in 2013. On behalf of SID, we would like to commend UDC’s ongoing commitment to innovation and to helping shape the future of display performance and solutions.”
The 2014 DIAs will be presented to the winners at the Symposium Luncheon on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, during Display Week 2014: The SID Annual International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition in San Diego, California.
“We are pleased to be honored by the Society for Information Display. Our years of R&D work and achievements have culminated in UniversalPHOLED materials that provide high quality, record-breaking energy efficiencies, vibrant colors, long operating lifetimes, and manufacturing versatility,” said Steven V. Abramson, President and Chief Executive Officer at Universal Display. “This award recognizes our green PHOLED emitter for enabling a substantial step forward in the evolution of the OLED market, by providing global manufacturers with even more energy efficiency and stunning performance for OLED displays.”
Presented by the Society for Information Display (SID), the 2014 Display Industry Awards (DIAs) recognize innovative display products, components, and applications that hold the most promise for shaping the future of the global display industry. The DIAs are awarded each year with Gold and Silver honors in three categories: Display of the Year, Display Application of the Year, and Display Component of the Year.
