NEWARK, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--At its 16th Annual Awards Gala on June 3, Leadership Newark will honor the Fidelco Group, Prudential Financial, Inc., PSE&G, United Way of Essex & West Hudson along with civic leaders Modia “Mo” Butler and Rebecca Doggett for their legacy of service and support for the continued improvement of the City of Newark.
“Our 2014 honorees are all deeply committed to supporting initiatives and finding solutions that are leading to the re-emergence of Newark as a premier American city,” said Celia King, Executive Director of Leadership Newark. “We are extremely proud of our 2014 honorees because of all they have done to build, strengthen and serve Newark.”
King said Fidelco is being honored for believing and investing in Newark; Prudential for its legacy of ensuring the financial security of the city; PSE&G for its heritage of strengthening Newark and its surrounding communities; and United Way of Essex & West Hudson for nourishing lifelines in neighborhoods throughout Newark.
Modia “Mo” Butler, State Director to New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, will receive a Leadership Newark Award for his continued belief and dedication to Newark and for consistently working towards and supporting progress. Previously, Butler was Chief-of-Staff for then-Mayor Corey Booker.
Leadership Newark’s Legacy Award will be given to humanitarian Rebecca Doggett for enabling extraordinary achievement. Doggett has been prominent in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. She was the first Director of the Essex County Office of Citizen's Services, the founding Executive Director of the Head Start Program and the Newark Preschool Council, and the first black female executive at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. In addition, Doggett has served on many local and national organizations, including the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, the Center for Community Change, the New Jersey Public Policy Research Institute, Leadership Newark, and WBGO Jazz Radio.

Leadership Newark is a two-year fellowship program for qualified professionals who are committed to the Greater Newark Community. The program provides a forum for emerging leaders to debate and discuss public policy issues as they move towards developing solutions and potential programs which could better the community.
