Connected Data Teams with Smile to Deliver Private Document Workflow Solution

New Integration of Connected Data’s Transporter private cloud storage platform and Smile’s PDFpen family of apps for iOS creates an end-to-end solution for privately accessing, editing, and sharing documents

SAN JOSE, Calif.--()--Connected Data, the creator of Transporter, the world’s first peer-to-peer private cloud storage platform, and Smile, the developer of award-winning productivity software for OS X and iOS devices, today announced that Smile’s next update to the PDFpen family of apps for iOS will offer support for Transporter. Professionals in the legal, medical, financial services and other heavily-regulated industries can now realize the benefits of using the cloud for file sharing and remote access with a solution that ensures total privacy and complete control over where data is stored.

"Mobile devices such as iPads are transforming the way doctors work, but the potential benefits have been offset by a lack of productivity tools that deliver the privacy required by the medical industry," said Dr. Michael Laccheo, Arthritis & Rheumatic Diseases, P.C. "Integrating PDFpen with the Transporter private cloud gives physicians a complete document workflow solution that is both HIPAA compliant and easy to use.”

The Smile PDFpen app lets users view, edit, annotate, sign, and encrypt confidential documents on iPhones, iPads, and Mac notebook and desktop computers. The app’s support for the Transporter platform gives users the ability to access and distribute confidential information such as legal documents or patient records locally or remotely on Macs, iPads or iPhones. Transporter allows files to be transferred over an encrypted channel directly from device to device to prevent access by unauthorized people.

"Public cloud systems do not meet regulatory requirements for storing sensitive documents. Smile is excited to work with Transporter to create a solution that solves this problem,” said Philip Goward, Founder of Smile. “PDFpen and PDFpen Scan+, our popular PDF editor and document scanning tools are now able to edit and store documents on Transporter. Smile customers benefit from knowing that their documents are available for review, editing and signing in a private and secure cloud. This is of particular benefit to medical and legal professionals."

While there are some cloud storage services that let users store files in encrypted formats, they are still controlled by a third-party and have monthly fees that quickly grow more expensive than the one-time cost of a Transporter.

“Transporter offers much more storage capacity at a significantly lower price compared to any other cloud storage option, and that provides significant benefits to application developers such as Smile,” said Geoff Barrall, CEO of Connected Data. “PDFpen support for Transporter represents the first-ever solution that lets users easily create a private cloud that they own and control, that meets their specific data protection requirements, and is also more cost-effective than anything else the market has to offer.”

Connected Data launched the Transporter Developer Program in late-March 2014 to offer both consumers and businesses a seamless way to privately store, share and access files from any device, directly from their favorite applications.
