This symposium will bring together an expert panel in endovascular therapies to discuss the benefits of DCBs as a treatment for peripheral arterial disease (PAD). WHY: According to The Lancet, 40.5 million cases of PAD were reported in Europe in 2010. PAD is one of the most common vascular diseases and is associated with heart attack, stroke, amputation and death. It occurs when arteries in the legs become narrowed or blocked by plaque. These blockages can result in severe pain, limited physical mobility and non-healing leg ulcers. The most common treatment for PAD is an angioplasty, where a balloon is inserted into the artery to open the artery and restore blood flow. Drug coated balloons (DCBs) deliver a drug to the artery walls that is intended to help prevent restenosis.
