McKesson Total Payment™ Platform Attains CMMI Level 3 Appraisal

Achievement Highlights McKesson’s Commitment to Quality Development Processes

NEWTON, Mass.--()--Today McKesson Health Solutions announced that the McKesson Total Payment™ platform has achieved a Level 3 (L3) appraisal rating under CMMI Institute’s Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI), a process improvement training and appraisal program administered by Carnegie Mellon University.

“Achieving CMMI Level 3 appraisal is evidence of our commitment to help reduce risk, sustain high quality, and continually improve processes,” says Mike Wood, Senior Vice President and CIO of McKesson Health Solutions. “We’re particularly proud of how quickly we completed the CMMI appraisal process. It took our team less than twelve months to achieve L3, which is well below the two to three years that are typically required. We believe this speaks to the fundamental maturity of our development processes and to McKesson’s deep-rooted commitment to quality.”

The McKesson Total Payment™ platform is an advanced service-oriented architecture (SOA) application and proprietary rules engine that is used by or integrated with several McKesson solutions, including ClaimsXten™, McKesson Episode Management™ and McKesson Reimbursement Manager™. These solutions can work together or as stand-alone products:

  • ClaimXten™ is a full-service claims auditing solution that helps payers apply complex payment and medical policies to the fee-for-service claim adjudication process in a more automated way.
  • McKesson Episode Management™ is a configurable rules-based solution for automating bundled payments, and helps payers and providers run value-based programs at scale.
  • Reimbursement Manager™ is an advanced pricing and reimbursement design tool that helps health plans reduce reimbursement administration, increase payment accuracy and enable more complex reimbursement strategies.

CMMI is an approach to performance management that provides guidance for efficient, effective improvement across multiple process disciplines in an organization; with an integrated vision of improvement. This helps improve performance as measured by decreased costs, on-time delivery, higher productivity, superior quality, and most importantly from McKesson’s perspective, customer satisfaction.

A CMMI Level 3 appraisal means an organization has achieved all the specific and generic goals of the process areas assigned to maturity levels 2 and 3. At maturity level 3, the organization is performing at a “defined” level, meaning processes are well characterized and understood, and are described in standards, procedures, tools and methods.
