The Institute for Healthcare Information Technology (IHIT) Announces the Appointment of Executive Director, D. Bates Mattison

ATLANTA--()--The Institute for Healthcare Information Technology, a non-profit established to improve lives through healthcare IT, is pleased to announce the appointment of D. Bates Mattison as Executive Director. Mattison comes with a wealth of industry experience, having spent the past twenty years working in healthcare management.

The Institute for Healthcare Information Technology (IHIT), was formed as a result of the success of the annual Healthcare IT Leadership Summit, which brings together leaders from healthcare IT companies, as well as health systems, payers, government organizations, associations, and educators.

As the Summit increased in popularity, IHIT founders recognized an opportunity to create an organization with a focus on healthcare IT projects that improve health, increase efficiency, and deliver measurable results. Mattison commented, “I’m honored and excited to get involved with projects that are currently underway, and to evaluate potential projects that could be opportunities for IHIT.”

As stated by Pat Williams, Board Chair of the Institute, Mattison’s experience and leadership skills “will be instrumental in the engagement of projects that deliver on our mission of improving lives through healthcare IT, not only in Georgia but throughout the US.”

While IHIT’s primary goal is improved access and quality of care, an equally important goal is economic development, which is supported by the “Georgia Healthcare IT Workforce Readiness Survey”, a recently completed IHIT research project.

The Workforce Readiness Study found that there are more than 4,700 Healthcare IT jobs available in the state of Georgia, and the demand for trained Healthcare IT professionals will only increase in the future. As a result of the study, IHIT will pursue several projects to ensure that business and state resources are aligned, and that Georgia’s workforce is trained to best meet the needs of the growing healthcare IT industry.
