HEFEI, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Recently China Automotive Technology & Research Center released the 2014 C-NCAP (China-New Car Assessment Program) crash test results. The JAC J4 received a high score of 54.5, earning a five star safety rating.
In the frontal impact test and small overlap front impact test the J4’s safety belts and airbags provided timely protection. There was no significant damage to the A column after the collision in the small overlap front impact test.
In the side impact test, the brunt of the impact was absorbed by the B column and the anti-collision beam. The safety belts remained fastened and the side airbags functioned normally.
The J4 was designed with HCS (Human-centered Safety) philosophy in mind; significant attention was given to security configuration, materials and manufacturing techniques.
HCS safety philosophy emphasizes protection of passengers and drivers as well as pedestrians. With that in mind, the J4 was designed in accordance with European pedestrian safety guidelines.
Aside from the basic safety configuration, great attention was paid to safety details. For example, the J4 has a two-level collapsible steering column and side airbags to help guarantee passenger safety. The J4 is the only vehicle equipped with TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) and 6 airbags.
The frame of the J4 is based on a high-strength crash design. High strength steel sheets were used throughout the frame of the J4 to increase the integrity of the vehicle. The steel sheets were pressed into shape, without welding, increasing the stability of the vehicle’s frame. Moreover, galvanized steel sheets were used to increase protection against corrosion and to guarantee the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
In addition to the strong frame, the J4 was designed to deflect the force of impact in a collision and disperse the force throughout the body of the vehicle in order to reduce damage to the driving cabin.
The result of all of this hard work and attention to detail is an extremely safe automobile, the JAC J4, and a shining stamp of approval from C-NCAP.
C-NCAP crash standards are based on E-NCAP crash standards and are updated in accordance with them. These standards are higher than the existing mandatory crash standards in most of the countries around the globe including Europe and China. According to the testing procedure, all tested vehicles shall be purchased directly from the market by the institution and then undergo multiple tests and evaluations for emissions, fuel consumption, three different types of crashes and whiplash. Test results are classified and given a star rating. The above procedure ensures systematic and objective information for consumers while at the same time incentivizing auto makers to develop and produce vehicles in a higher safety bracket with the goal of reducing injuries and effectively decreasing traffic accidents.
