Microsoft TechEd North America 2014

HOUSTON--()--Today at TechEd North America, Dell announced new virtualization, systems management, and cloud computing offerings that help organizations of all sizes to easily and effectively monitor and manage their Microsoft environments. Dell’s new solutions for Active Directory and Exchange virtualization management; migration and management of Active Directory; and improvements to its cloud client computing offerings reflect Dell’s commitment to maintaining the performance and health of Microsoft environments.

Also announced today, a new version of the Dell KACE K1000 Systems Management Appliance helps improve endpoint visibility, security and manageability across Microsoft environments. These new products will be showcased this week at the Microsoft TechEd Conference, booth number 1601.

Manage, Monitor, Optimize

  • The latest version of the Dell KACE K1000 Systems Management Appliance helps customers better prepare and secure their IT environments in the wake of the “Internet of Things,” with new features including: agentless technology that tracks all connected devices without having to install software directly on them, broader cross-platform inventory support, automated software blacklisting, and a new user interface.
  • Dell Active Administrator 7.0 is a comprehensive, integrated and proactive Microsoft Active Directory administration solution that complements and goes beyond native tool capabilities. From a single console, Active Administrator addresses the most important areas of Active Directory (AD) including security and delegation, auditing and alerting, backup and recovery, Group Policy, health and replication, and accounts and configurations. Active Administrator helps meet auditing requirements faster and easier than native tools, and also tightens security, maintains business continuity and increases IT efficiency. New features include:
    • Active Tiles that boost productivity at a glance in real-time to present users with status rollups of each sub-section of AD management, such as security, delegation, performance, and Group Policy
    • Quick Tasks that help AD administrators quickly execute six of their most common tasks: initiate a search for an AD object; perform four different operations against user accounts (enable/disable, reset password, unlock, or add/remove from a group); or reset a computer account
    • DC Management Module that enables IT to select the specific domain controller through which all operations will be performed. Also manages and monitors the status of domain services, performance metrics, and event logs to identify potential issues or trends before they become critical. Enables IT to easily add, remove or switch to another domain controller, connect through remote desktop, or reboot the domain controller
  • Dell Foglight for Microsoft Active Directory and Foglight for Microsoft Exchange Server are designed specifically for virtualized Active Directory (AD) and Exchange server installations. Feature/benefits include:
    • Ability to monitor the performance of AD and Exchange environments to pinpoint the impact of performance problems related to the entire virtual infrastructure
    • Intuitive web-based UI so administrators have a single-pane-of-glass view into the health and performance of their entire AD or Exchange environments
    • Out-of-the-box expert alerts, advice and dashboard capabilities that allow administrators to visualize and report on their entire enterprise, both in real-time and with a unique “any-point-in-time” historical view

Secure, Cost-effective Thin Client and Infrastructure Support

Dell Wyse Datacenter for Microsoft VDI and vWorkspace, launched earlier this year and now is available in 57 countries. This solution is highly flexible, cost-effective and scalable, designed to provide organizations with integrated infrastructure options that deliver performance, agility and efficiency, while ensuring enterprise-level VDI features for one of the lowest price-per-seat solutions available today. It is ideal for organizations wishing to leverage their datacenter investment and existing expertise in Microsoft infrastructure to provide workers secure and flexible access to data and applications, while simplifying management and improving data security, control and compliance. Enhancements to the solutions announced today offer reduced storage costs and flexible deployment options for Dell customers:

  • Support for Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 Storage Spaces, which dramatically reduces the cost of highly available storage for desktop virtualization infrastructure, enabling the same storage performance and cost for pooled and persistent virtual machines, using Dell PowerVault MD1220 DAS, Windows Server 2012 R2 Storage Spaces and data deduplication.
  • Full support of Dell PowerEdge T420 and R420 servers to meet the needs of small organization and channel partners looking to deliver VDI in increments of 50-100 seats
  • Support for the new high performance Dell Wyse 7000 series quad display thin client, a Best of TechEd Finalist.

Dell Enterprise Solutions Optimize the Benefits of Storage Spaces and Accelerate Performance for Microsoft Environments

Dell today announced first-time Dell PowerVault MD3060e enclosure support for PowerEdge servers, including the PowerEdge R620, R720 and R720xd. This compact, 4U, 60-drive high-density enclosure can expand up to 240 hard drives behind a single server. When paired with the fully configured Dell PowerEdge R720xd with 50TB of internal capacity, a customer can store more than a petabyte of data in less than a half-rack of standard server rack space. The PowerVault MD3060e enclosure supports various software defined storage offerings, including Microsoft Storage Spaces, allowing customers to build larger and cost-efficient configurations. Dell is Microsoft’s largest OEM partner for Storage Spaces support, and offers the most complete solution that includes servers, controllers, JBOD enclosures and disks.

Dell also introduced new whitepapers and reference architectures for some of its latest enterprise solutions, including Dell Fluid Cache for SAN, to accelerate performance for Microsoft environments.
