Levine Lee Adds Senior Federal Prosecutor as Partner

Carolyn Pokorny, Deputy Chief of U.S. Attorney’s Office, is the fourth federal prosecutor to join the firm

NEW YORK--()--Levine Lee LLP announces that Carolyn Pokorny, who until recently served as the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, has joined the firm as a partner.

Throughout her distinguished 14-year career as a federal prosecutor, Ms. Pokorny has overseen prominent convictions in areas ranging from securities, bank, wire, tax and health care fraud to public corruption, money laundering and violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). In 2011, Ms. Pokorny received the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service. In 2013, she was named Federal Prosecutor of the Year by the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation.

Ms. Pokorny will enhance Levine Lee’s roster of trial and appellate lawyers as the firm’s fifth partner and fourth former federal prosecutor. The firm was founded in 2011 by Seth L. Levine, Kenneth E. Lee and Scott B. Klugman. In January 2014, they were joined by Jillian B. Berman, an Assistant U.S. Attorney from the Southern District of New York. The firm now has ten attorneys handling complex commercial litigation, white collar and securities enforcement matters. Earlier this year, the National Law Journal named the firm to its 2014 “Hot List” of the top ten litigation boutiques in the country.

“Carolyn’s professional skill, wealth of experience and reputation for integrity are a powerful combination,” Mr. Levine says. “As a friend and former colleague at the U.S. Attorney’s office, it is a privilege to call her my partner.”

“She will be a tremendous asset to the firm and our clients,” adds Mr. Lee. “We are pleased to have a lawyer of her caliber and reputation augmenting the firm’s deep bench in white collar and securities enforcement matters.”

Ms. Pokorny notes that the firm’s reputation in the legal community as well as the opportunity to work with her former colleagues from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mr. Levine and Mr. Klugman, were significant factors in her decision to join the firm: “What they have built in only three years is remarkable, and I am proud to be a part of it.”

Prior to serving as the Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division, Ms. Pokorny served in a variety of other senior positions including: Chief, General Crimes; Senior Litigation Counsel, Public Integrity; Chief, Narcotics and the International Narcotics Strike Force; and Deputy Chief, Narcotics. Since 2002, Ms. Pokorny has served as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Clinical Law at Brooklyn Law School. Ms. Pokorny began her career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Appeals Bureau of the Bronx District Attorney’s Office and then clerked for the Hon. Arthur D. Spatt of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. She graduated from Brooklyn Law School (Associate Managing Editor, Law Review) and New York University (cum laude).
