Gary S. Moriwaki and Reiko Takikawa Join Windels Marx as Partners

Team Expands the Private Client Services, Estates and Trusts Practice Group

NEW YORK--()--Windels Marx is pleased to announce that Gary S. Moriwaki and Reiko Takikawa have joined the firm as Partners, resident in the New York office. Both attorneys bring with them significant experience in trusts and estates law.

Gary, who was a founder and partner of Young Moriwaki & Greenfader and maintains executive-level positions with numerous Asian-American interests, added, “New York is an important platform for our domestic and international clients and Windels Marx has a long tradition of advising on regional, national and cross-border matters.”

With a particular practice focus on Japanese individuals and corporations, Reiko said, “A law firm’s size and culture remain important facets of our client service. Windels Marx is the right fit for our practice.”

With the arrival of Gary, Reiko and their team, the Private Client Services, Estates and Trusts Practice Group is comprised of nearly twenty partners, lawyers and legal professionals in New York and New Jersey.

About Gary S. Moriwaki

Gary has more than thirty-seven years of experience in estate planning and administration. His clients include domestic and foreign business owners, professionals, and executives from a spectrum of industries. Gary is well-versed in advising clients who have complex, multi-national issues involving ownership of assets in multiple jurisdictions, domestic and foreign estate and inheritance taxes, choice of laws and succession concerns.

As a member of various charitable organizations, Gary is experienced in charitable giving techniques and the formation and operation of private foundations. He is the immediate Past President of the Japanese American Association of New York, a Trustee of the Japanese American National Museum, Vice Chair of the Asian American Federation, Vice Chair of the U.S.-Japan Council and a member of the Japan Society, in addition to numerous other non-profit organizations.

Gary was a founder and partner at the firm of Young Moriwaki & Greenfader prior to its merger with Fox Rothschild. He also served as general counsel to a major multi-national Japanese corporation, as well as the Games Organizing Committee of the 2005 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.

Gary earned his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1976 and his B.A. from Columbia University in 1973.

About Reiko Takikawa

Reiko's practice focuses on matters pertaining to trusts and estates. As a bilingual attorney, she counsels international clients with cross-border issues, both individuals and corporate, particularly Japanese. She provides guidance to Japanese clients on U.S. laws and the legal system, as well as proceedings in the New York Surrogate's Courts.

Reiko advises on and prepares planning documents including wills, trust agreements, powers of attorney, and advance directives. She represents clients in individual and fiduciary capacities regarding probate matters and the administration of estates, including families of decedents who left assets in the U.S.

Reiko is committed to pro bono activities for Japanese communities in the New York area.

In addition to her primary focus area of trusts and estates, she practiced immigration and nationality law. Reiko co-authored "Avoiding Charges of Immigration-Related Discrimination - a Primer for Japanese Employers in the U.S.," published in International Legal Strategy (March 2001).

Reiko has extensive experience in translating complicated legal, financial, and technical documents using English and Japanese. She cooperated in the translation of "The Law of Corporations In a Nutshell," published in 1999. She is an associate member of the American Translators Association.

Prior to entering the field of law, Reiko had a career in the international business community handling international bids for interior design, decoration, and FF&E contracting. She was also a visiting scholar at The Hastings Center in Garrison, New York, conducting research into advance directives and patients' interests.

Reiko earned her LL.M from New York University School of Law and her LL.B and B.A. from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan.
