Seattle City Light and Tendril Team Up to Engage Consumers with Highly Targeted Energy Services

Tendril’s Targeting and Personalization Capabilities Allow Seattle City Light to Provide Electric Heat Users with Compelling Tools to Track and Manage their Consumption

BOULDER, Colo. & SEATTLE--()--Tendril®, the leading provider of Energy Services Management (ESM) solutions, and Seattle City Light, the 10th largest public utility in the United States, today announced a partnership to deliver personalized engagement solutions to 50,000 electric heat users. In particular, Seattle City Light will use the Tendril ESM Platform to analyze and identify eligible customers and provide them personalized insights and recommendations designed to drive engagement and reduce energy consumption.

Recognizing that users of electric-based heat are ideal candidates for improved efficiencies, Seattle City Light turned to Tendril’s ESM platform to provide these customers with compelling content about their energy consumption. Individuals will receive personalized tips and best practices on how to better manage consumption and have the ability to ask energy-related questions of an expert and to access leaderboards that “gamify” their experience. In addition, Seattle City Light customers can specify the channel from which they prefer to receive this information, including email and paper home energy reports and an online portal.

“Seattle City Light is an organization committed to energy efficiency and conservation, as well as engaging and providing great value to our customers,” said Lars Henrikson, senior planning and development specialist, Seattle City Light. “We selected Tendril to bolster our leadership in these important areas by delivering highly targeted and personalized messages that increase energy savings and speak to the individual needs of our customers.”

Many energy providers don’t use all the data at their disposal when segmenting their customer base. This leads to low program participation rates and invariably causes program goals to fall short. By partnering with Tendril, Seattle City Light gains the benefit of a unique home simulation model that aggregates and analyzes data, and churns out compelling and actionable insights. Not only does this approach increase program participation, it ensures that consumers receive offers that are personalized to their individual needs.

“I applaud Seattle City Light for its conservation efforts and for always striving to improve the results of its energy efficiency programs,” said Marie Bahl McKenna, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Tendril. “In this case, it’s about recognizing the importance of delivering personalized communications to their customers and offering targeted services that are certain to achieve the type of results they are looking for. Beyond these higher-level program benefits, this unique approach puts Seattle City Light in a position to empower its customers with compelling content that is tailored to their individual needs and, therefore, more beneficial.”

Seattle City Light will begin deploying home energy reports to customers in the summer of 2014, with an online portal scheduled to be available by late 2014.
