Civil Service Employees Insurance Group Launches 2014 Youth Scholarship Program for High School Seniors

Company Offers Nearly $10,000 in Scholarship Awards to Promote Awareness of Driver Safety Among Teenagers

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--()--Civil Service Employees Insurance Group (CSE Insurance), a leader in providing civil service employees with quality protection at affordable rates, announces its 2014 CSE Youth Scholarship Program, an annual essay competition designed to promote awareness of young driver safety. This is the eighteenth year CSE has sponsored the program that is open to eligible high school seniors in Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah who are children of public employees.

A total of $9,750 in scholarships will be awarded to winning entrants based on their essays that discuss ways to reduce teenage automobile accident rates. Essays are evaluated on creativity, practicality, and written skill.

The competition is divided into three geographic regions: Northern California, Southern California, and Arizona/Nevada/Utah. In each region, CSE will offer one $1,500 scholarship for first place, one $1,000 scholarship for second place, $500 scholarship for each third place, and $250 for fourth place. The scholarship awards are to be applied toward the students' school-related expenses for the 2014-2015 academic year.

"Far too often, teenagers are universally portrayed as reckless when behind the wheel," said Richard Rey, President and CEO of CSE Insurance. "CSE Insurance is proud to support an effort showcasing bright young minds working toward the goal of being on the road safer for everyone."

To be eligible for the competition, students must be attending their senior year of high school. The applicant must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and must have been accepted to an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or trade school, in the United States with intent to enroll as a full-time freshman by the Fall 2014 session.

The applicant's parent or legal guardian must be a currently-employed or retired full-time peace officer, firefighter, educator, postal employee, member of the military or other federal, state, or local government worker.

All submissions must be received by Friday, May 16, 2014.
