2014 NAB Show

LAS VEGAS--()--2014 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show--Elemental Technologies, the leading supplier of software-defined video solutions for multiscreen content delivery, today announced that its video processing software is fully integrated into the Ericsson Virtualized Encoding solution. The integration ensures best-in-class video processing performance and picture quality while allowing the most agile use of platforms and technology improvements for TV Anywhere services.

Software-defined video (SDV) solutions from Elemental take an infrastructure-agnostic approach to implementing flexible, scalable and easily upgradable video processing workflows. They allow video providers to economically run software across an optimal combination of dedicated and virtualized resources in both private and public data centers. SDV products from Elemental can be used on multiple processing architectures and easily deployed on appliances, blade solutions, virtual machines, and in the cloud.

“By expanding Ericsson Virtualized Encoding to also support Elemental software encoding, we are enabling TV service providers to efficiently address the growing complexity of multiscreen TV service delivery within a single solution,” said Dr. Giles Wilson, Head of TV Compression for Ericsson. “As providers strive to address consumer demand for TV Anywhere, we are focused on helping them make the right choices with their multiscreen video processing deployments.”

Designed to remove the complexity of TV Anywhere video processing, Ericsson Virtualized Encoding is the industry’s first software solution for intelligent utilization of multiple encoding resources regardless of the platform. A completely task and service-oriented solution, it can allocate resources and simplify the process of selecting the right encoding method and platform based on the operator’s priorities for deployment speed, video quality and output. It eliminates complexity, enables more efficient resource utilization and bandwidth management and bridges the gap between broadcast and IT infrastructures, allowing deployment of enhanced TV services much more quickly.

“Elemental’s view of the future of video aligns well with Ericsson’s vision of the Networked Society where there will be 50 billion connected devices by 2020, 15 billion of which will be video enabled,” said Sam Blackman, CEO and co-founder for Elemental. “The integration of Elemental solutions into the Ericsson platform will help enable pay TV operators, content owners, broadcasters and sports programmers to transform their traditional TV businesses into multiscreen successes across the globe.”

Elemental will feature its innovative software-defined video platform at NAB 2014 April 7-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (South Upper Hall, Booth 2724). The company will showcase real-time 4K HEVC video processing as well as video streaming in turnkey, virtualized and cloud-based deployments.
