Collaboration Between NCKU and Delta Electronics Yields Success

TAINAN, Taiwan--()--The partnership between National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, and Delta Electronics, the nation's biggest supplier of power supply units, has been hailed as the most successful industry-academia cooperation to date, and this year sees its 6th year of continued collaboration.

The 2013 NCKU-DELTA Joint Research and Development Project and Results Presentation took place on March 25th, showcasing of 11 case studies based on the topics of “Green Energy” and “Medical Biotechnology.”

The innovative developments bore testament to the close cooperation between academia and industry.

The event took place at the NCKU Department of Electrical Engineering, and was presided over by NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung.

The Delta Electronics delegation was led by Bruce Cheng, founder of the company, and consisted of approximately 30 members, including Chairman Hai and Mr. Li, CEO.

President Hwung said he is proud of the results of the NCKU-Delta collaboration, and states that “the mode of cooperation is impressive, and should be emulated by all.”

“Academic research must be beneficial to people’s livelihood,” Hwung emphasized, “but research and commercialization have entirely different processes, so beneficial product development requires both the functionality-based thinking of researchers and the different requirements of industrial goods.”

Cheng expressed his gratitude for the past 5 years of collaboration with NCKU, as well as the enthusiastic support from the principals and teachers of his alma mater.

“Technology development is not achieved in a day”, said Cheng, but he strongly believed that the cooperation between NCKU and Delta Electronics would one day yield extraordinary results.

According to Director Mi-Ching Tsai of the NCKU Research and Services Headquarters, since the start of the 10 year collaboration with Delta Electronics in 2008, 62 research studies have been completed; 42 being of single-field nature, and 22 interdisciplinary. This year will see the commencement of another 14 new case studies.

He stressed that the process of cooperation will, in addition to joint research efforts, nurture many talents, stating that “the ultimate aim of this partnership is to develop new ventures”.
