Oregon National Guard's "Partners in Care" Initiative Hosts Faith-Based Summit

SPRINGFIELD, Ore.--()--Partners in Care, an initiative designed to support Service members, Veterans and their Families, hosts PARTNERS IN CARE: ADVOCACY FOR VETERANS, a faith-based summit designed with interactive workshops and educational presentations. For clergy and faith leaders, counselors and service providers, it’s an incredible opportunity to gain an understanding of the unique spiritual needs of our Service members and Veterans. Through this free summit, attendees will explore reintegration challenges, discuss the healing and caring roles of faith leaders and learn about resources available to support Military Families. PARTNERS IN CARE: ADVOCACY FOR VETERANS is scheduled for April 9 from 8am – 12pm at the Springfield Armory located at 3106 Pierce Parkway. The event is free and open to the public. Space is limited and RSVP is requested.

“There are times when we have to send our Warriors into harm’s way, and they must use force to defend our nation and the lives of those who can’t defend themselves. But there is nothing redemptive or life-giving in the experience of using force or violence, even when it’s clearly justified,” said Deacon Roy Harrington, a community faith leader. Many of these brave service men and women reintegrate into communities with scars that are not just physical, but behavioral, emotional and spiritual. As they seek to heal from these invisible wounds of war, Veterans may naturally seek guidance, support and advice from their local community.

During the conference, attendees will receive an overview of military culture, learn about the invisible wounds of war, discuss suicide prevention techniques, gain awareness of readjustment challenges faced after a deployment and most importantly, learn about resources and tools available to provide care unique to the needs of Military Families. “This faith-based summit will provide a comprehensive framework for congregations, coalitions, groups and essentially anyone who supports our military,” said Angela Traina, Community Support Coordinator of Army OneSource.

PARTNERS IN CARE: ADVOCACY FOR VETERANS is made possible by the Oregon National Guard Chaplains and Army OneSource.
