SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today at Box Dev, in front of an audience of more than 1,000 developers, Box released Box View and Metadata, two powerful new technologies that enable developers and enterprise customers to build powerful applications for the information economy. To complement its free developer offering, the company also announced platform pricing for enterprises that want to build on Box’s APIs. New Platform Products
Box View
Box View powers the fastest, most elegant content viewing experience on the web and mobile. This technology converts PDF and Office documents into easily embeddable HTML, delivering beautiful, high fidelity content on any platform or device. Developers that leverage Box View can build immersive experiences around content, including custom document viewers for web and mobile platforms.
Box has also open sourced viewer.js, a client-side library for rendering and interacting with Box View documents. Developers can create visually stunning animations and collect valuable usage and data analytics with viewer.js. Box View is now generally available to all developers and is used by more than 100 businesses, including Zendesk, Oracle, Xero, UberConference, Clio and Producteev by Jive.
"The cloud hasn’t just changed how software is delivered, it’s also opened new opportunities for platform development across vendors,” said Mikkel Svane, founder and CEO of customer service platform Zendesk. “Box View is a great example of how you can take a feature from one cloud application and extend it to another with ease and elegance.”
Metadata
Introduced as a private beta at BoxWorks 2013, Metadata is now available to all developers as a beta and is integrated with Box’s iOS, Android, and Windows SDKs. Part of the Box Content API, Metadata allows developers to attach customizable data to unstructured content stored on Box, making it easy to assign workflows around that content and create repeatable business processes that drive productivity and efficiency across organizations. Metadata is now integrated with Box’s search functionality, enabling developers and customers to easily identify and locate content stored on Box. Taptera and GoFormz are two platform partners currently leveraging the Metadata beta in custom applications.
New Platform Pricing & Customers
Today, Box introduced new pricing plans for its APIs that give customers additional ways to leverage Box’s technology, infrastructure and platform services for building custom applications, automating business processes, managing content workflows and viewing documents at high volumes. This is the first time that Box has offered a way for customers to purchase Box as a platform. Platform pricing complements Box’s traditional per-seat model for content management and collaboration. API access for third party developers will continue to be free of charge.
Leading brands across a variety of vertical markets are leveraging the Box Platform to power their businesses including, Sungevity, Guaranteed Rate, Sunbelt Rentals, Full Resolution Health, Random House, MediCopy and McLarens.
“Sungevity is not only on the cutting edge of designing residential solar energy systems, but we are pushing the envelope when it comes to using new technologies internally to create an environment that fosters productivity, agility and extraordinary performance,” said Steve Atherton, CTO and VP of Software Engineering at Sungevity. “By leveraging the Box platform, we have been able to build custom automations, providing us with an incredibly efficient and fast way to power core business operations and upload, share and search massive collections of documents.”
