FRANKLIN, Mass.--()--Compliance contractors and leak detection and repair (LDAR) professionals responsible for leak detection at processing plants, industrial facilities and hazardous waste sites can now benefit from a new, portable, intrinsically safe toxic vapor analyzer that provides both flame ionization (FID) and photo ionization detection (PID) of organic and inorganic compounds.

The Thermo Scientific TVA2020 Toxic Vapor Analyzer is the successor to the current market leader in LDAR, the long-serving Thermo Scientific TVA1000B analyzer. More compact and lightweight than its predecessor, the TVA2020 analyzer incorporates several new features including Bluetooth, GPS and internal data logging. Users of the new instrument can easily and efficiently monitor 350 - 450 potential volatile organic compound (VOC) or hazardous organic pollutant leak-points per day.

“We’ve designed the TVA2020 analyzer to meet a broad range of applications, including U.S. EPA Method 21 monitoring, site remediation, landfill monitoring and general area surveys,” said Alan Matta, industrial hygiene product manager, environmental and process monitoring, Thermo Fisher Scientific. “The instrument can be configured by the user to meet the critical requirements of each application and can maintain this calibration information for a minimum of 30 days.”

The dual detection capability offered by the TVA2020 analyzer enables users to detect both organic and inorganic compounds in the parts per million (ppm) range and eliminates the time and expense of purchasing two separate instruments. Samples are drawn in to the instrument through one of two handheld probes for concentration calculation and data storage or transmission to a handheld device. This allows the TVA2020 analyzer to remain in its carrying case while in the field.

Additional benefits of the TVA2020 analyzer include:

  • Decreased overall weight by up to 21 percent;
  • Faster reading of organic and inorganic compounds compared with single detector technology;
  • Optional multiple sampling probe configuration;
  • More comprehensive gas coverage versus some comparably sized instruments; and
  • Improved preventative maintenance capabilities, leading to enhanced efficiency.
