Meridian Bank Recognized for Outstanding Community Service, Receives Pillars of the Community Award

MALVERN, Pa.--()--Meridian Bank (Meridian) was presented with the prestigious Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh (FHLBank) Pillars of the Community Award in recognition of the bank’s commitment to community revitalization. The Pillars award is FHLBank’s highest organizational honor and is presented annually to select FHLBank members.

Meridian received the award at one of the FHLBank’s regional member conferences. John Bendel, FHLBank director of community investment, spoke at the event about the bank’s community achievements. Chris Annas, Meridian’s president and CEO, accepted the award on behalf of the bank.

As part of the award, FHLBank also presented a $1,000 check on Meridian’s behalf to Habitat for Humanity of Chester County, which brings people together to build homes, communities and hope to ensure that everyone has a decent place to live. Meridian Bank is an active supporter of the organization.

An active member of the FHLBank cooperative, Meridian has taken advantage of the First Front Door program, helping more than 40 homeowners in 2013 to buy their first homes. Meridian is also active in using the Community Lending Program, channeling $2.5 million dollars in low-cost loans last year to support community projects and organizations.

“Meridian Bank shows that it's dedicated to improving communities every day by actively supporting community projects and helping first-time homebuyers achieve their dream of owning a home,” said Winthrop Watson, FHLBank’s president and CEO. “We are proud to have an organization like Meridian as part of our membership.”
