MELBOURNE, Fla. & ROCHESTER, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--John Nieto, a senior scientist with Harris Corporation’s RF Communications segment, has been named the 2014 recipient of the Harris Fellow Award, the company's highest recognition for engineering achievement. Nieto was honored at the company’s annual Fellows Banquet in Melbourne, Florida.
Nieto, one of 6,000 engineers and scientists at Harris, was recognized for his application of communication and coding theory. His inventions and implementations have been instrumental to the company's renowned Falcon® family of radios, which are fielded by all branches of the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as ministries of defense in more than 100 countries.

Nieto is an inventor or co-inventor of more than 50 Harris patents and has authored or co-authored many technical papers and presentations. He also is a co-author of the book, “Third Generation and Wideband HF Radio Communications.” Nieto has contributed to the development of innovative signal processing solutions for communication systems including equalization, forward-error correction coding and iterative demodulation and decoding techniques in Harris narrowband and wideband products.
Nieto’s technical skill, enthusiasm and problem solving are recognized nationally and internationally through his contributions at technical conferences, symposia and U.S. and NATO technical working groups. He earned both his bachelor's degree and master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla.
