LOS ANGELES--()--Barlow Respiratory Hospital (BRH) is devoted to respiratory treatment, and care of critically ill patients. Barlow celebrated its 112th year of exceptional service to the Los Angeles community and its future with a glamorous gala on Saturday, February 22, 2014. The gala was held at the historic Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. All proceeds will go towards a new hospital building designed to enhance the therapeutic environment for patients and their families.

“Barlow Respiratory Hospital would like to extends its sincerest appreciation to the Barlow Express Honorary committee Chairs Drs. Andrea & David Feinberg and Ambassador and Mrs. John Gavin for an extraordinary job,” said CEO of BRH Margaret Crane.

The 1930s themed Barlow Express gala began with a silent auction cocktail party, where a classic 1932 Packard was featured as a backdrop for photographs. Silent auction items included use of a private estate in Ojai, Opening Night – Los Angeles Opera, and a Geary’s, Beverly Hills gift certificate, to name a few.

The evening continued with a sit-down dinner, while actress and author Beverly Sassoon, the evening’s emcee, welcomed all attendees to the gala. She introduced a video showcasing Barlow Respiratory Hospital’s history, touching patient testimonials, and future plans for a new state-of-the-art facility. Ms. Sassoon then introduced CEO of BRH Margaret Crane and BRH’s Board Chairman Michael Berger, who thanked the honorary and planning committees, and all the attendees for supporting the future of Barlow Respiratory Hospital.

Mrs. Crane and Mr. Berger introduced the video of, and award to the evening’s first honoree – Medical Research Award – to Dr. Steven Dubinett, of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Dubinett was honored for his groundbreaking research in the area of lung disease.

Gala co-chair Jennifer Diener, introduced the video of the evening’s second honorees, Suzanne and Fred Rheinstein. Mrs. Crane & Mr. Berger awarded the Community Builder and Entrepreneur Award to author & business owner Suzanne Rheinstein in honor of the work and community leadership that she and her husband, the late Fred Rheinstein, have demonstrated for decades.

The evening ended with an amazing performance by Deana Martin, internationally renowned singer and daughter of the legendary Dean Martin, and her quintet. She performed classics by Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald. She also performed a new song and duet, True Love, featuring her father, Dean Martin, from her new album, Destination Moon.
