Barbara Whittaker Joins ChannelNet Board

DEARBORN, Mich.--()--ChannelNet is pleased to announce Barbara Whittaker has joined its board of advisors. Barbara Whittaker is President of BW Limited, a strategic sourcing consultancy.

Whittaker recently directed the negotiations and strategy that culminated in a major joint venture between a minority company, The Rush Group, and Faurecia, one of the largest global automotive component companies. She is a business strategist and procurement and supply chain expert with extensive experience in the automotive industry, both OEM and supplier base sectors.

“Barbara brings a wealth of expertise about the automotive industry procurement and supply chain. She also has unique transformational and strategic planning skills,” said Paula Tompkins, CEO and founder of ChannelNet. “It will be a huge benefit to be able to get advice from someone with such a broad background.”

Prior to starting her own business, Whittaker was the Executive Director, Global Purchasing at General Motors (GM). During her decade plus at GM, she grew the supplier diversity to billions of dollars. She developed the supplier mentoring process as well as the Diversity Council, which expanded the reach and involvement of GM with the minority supply base.

Over the span of her career, Whittaker has been recognized by numerous organizations and publications. Most recently she received the 2014 Breakthrough Award from the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). Some of her other awards are; Woman of the Year--African Americans on Wheels, 2011 Automotive Industry’s “Living Legend Award,” from Real Time Media, and the 2009 Woman of Excellence bestowed by the Michigan Chronicle.
