PARIS--()--Located about 60 kilometers from Rio de Janeiro, boosted by strong growth opportunities generated by the exploitation of the biggest oil fields of Brazilian pre-salt, a 200 km straight line in the Atlantic Ocean, Maricá city boasts enormous potential for both economic development and diverse tourist attractions.

Three current projects in Maricá serve as building blocks that underpin orderly and sustainable growth, the principal one being the Naval District of Jaconé, one of the most modern seaports of Brazil. This 5.6 million-m2 private project is expected to generate up to 13,000 employment opportunities during construction and anticipates transferring 850,000 oil barrels per day. Another essential development block, the local government is investing in the renovation of the municipal airport, expanding its runway from 1,400 to between 1,600 and 1,800 meters. Upon completion, the terminal capacity will augment: regional flights and international executive flights up to 68,000 passengers and handling approximately 4,300 tons of cargo per year.

Maricá enjoys a privileged position, mountainous topography, six lagoons, and optimal weather and temperatures year round. Along with the rainforest biome (one of the most preserved), and a 46 km coastline promises multiple tourism possibilities. To make sure that this expansion takes place under sustainable conditions with long-term social, environmental and economic development, the city has a Master Plan in place, about 30 years of planning. The county estimates 362 sq kilometers of free space areas.
