BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--XL Hybrids, Inc., developer of hybrid electric powertrains for commercial vans and trucks, and Knapheide Manufacturing Company, one of the leading commercial vehicle equipment providers in North America, today announced that Knapheide has completed more than 100 installations of XL Hybrids’ XL3 powertrain on fleet vehicles.
“Installing over 100 hybrid electric powertrain components on Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana cargo vans in our first five months of production is a great accomplishment,” said Bo Knapheide, senior vice president of distributor and fleet operations. “With XL Hybrids’ technology we offer fleet customers a work-ready, fuel-efficient hybrid van that delivers a fast payback.”
XL Hybrids’ technology, which reduces fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent on urban and suburban routes, has been successfully deployed in the field with some of the largest fleets in North America including Coca-Cola and FedEx.
Designed for seamless integration in four to six hours with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) powertrain, XL Hybrids’ technology is delivered by Knapheide via the OEM ship-through process, providing a one-stop purchase, upfit, delivery, and invoice experience for commercial fleets. In addition to new MY2014 vehicle upfits, Knapheide installation facilities have also completed hybrid electric retrofits of MY2012 and MY2013 vans.
A hybrid 2014 Chevrolet Express cargo van upfitted with XL Hybrids’ technology by Knapheide will be displayed in the XL Hybrids booth #4181 at the 2014 NTEA Work Truck Show, March 5-7 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.
“We are excited to showcase a Knapheide-upfitted hybrid vehicle at The NTEA Work Truck Show,” said Clay Siegert, XL Hybrids co-founder and vice president of supply chain. “This is an opportunity for commercial fleet leaders to see why XL Hybrids was recently recognized as one of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies by Fast Company.”
