Pica8 Executive to Offer Real-World Scenarios for Building OpenFlow-Based Data Centers

Chief Architect David Liu to discuss best practices and other considerations for software defined network production environments

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--()--Pica8, the leader in open systems for software defined networking (SDN), today announced that its chief architect, David Liu, will be presenting at the upcoming Bay Area Network Virtualization meet up group in Santa Clara on February 27. Liu will discuss how white-box bare-metal switches are emerging as a viable alternative for network architects deploying software defined networks (SDN).

Liu plans to show developers and network architects different case study scenarios where Pica8 deployed white box switches running OpenFlow into three different data centers production environments. In these scenarios, Liu will discuss the potential SDN has for providing disparate control and data functions that can be utilized to create adaptable networks that can more easily respond to rapid changes in operational or application conditions.

Liu also plans to discuss how Pica8 scaled OpenFlow-based data center networks overcoming the constraints presented and the steps they took to work through limited TCAM space in commercial silicon. In addition, Liu plans to discuss how commercial silicon supports the OpenFlow 1.3 specification and how additional features of the OpenFlow specification that will drive commercial silicon development.
