CARPINTERIA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--lynda.com, an online education company, today announces the launch of its new native Android mobile application. The free app builds on the current lynda.com app for Android tablets, making it easier and more convenient than ever for people to learn anywhere, anytime.
“lynda.com’s lifelong learning approach appeals to working professionals, full-time students and others who take our courses when they need to brush up on skills or learn something new,” said Ken Sandy, lynda.com vice president of product. “By expanding our mobile capabilities to the Android platform, we’re making the learning process easier and more accessible for our members—whether they’re working, commuting, traveling or taking time away from their desks.”
The lynda.com app for Android is designed to provide members with convenient access to the entire course library from their Android phones or tablets. Offering more than 110,000 movies contained in 2,400 courses, the library provides the latest training from software, business and design skills to web, photography and more. Even non-members can browse courses and watch free videos. Other features and benefits of the application include
- Continuity—switch between devices without ever losing your place, or course history
- Sharing courses—share courses with your social networks
- Offline viewing—download courses to watch anywhere, even without an Internet connection (annual premium membership required)
- Playlists—create and manage your playlists from your Android device
- Intuitive interface—find courses and videos quickly
- Adaptive interface—view on any size device; screen adjusts to your phone or tablet
- Free content—preview the library and watch selected videos before becoming a member
The app has received positive views from individual and enterprise members alike. Martin Dalziel, a longtime lynda.com member and founder of Creative Pixel Media, no longer uses his desktop to watch courses for both work and fun. “With the new Android app, I’ve been exclusively using lynda.com on my tablet and on my phone,” he said. “With the offline viewing feature, I’ve been able to watch from anywhere without being connected to a network. It’s a very complete app; the playback is great and it has all the features I need.”
The new mobile application is now available in the Google Play store or the Amazon Appstore and can be downloaded to any Android tablet or phone with an Android 2.3 or later operating system.
