NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) applauded President Barack Obama today, for sending a clear message to companies around the world that Iran is closed for business. Speaking at a joint press conference with French President Francois Hollande today, President Obama said:
Businesses may be exploring, “are there some possibilities to get in sooner rather than later if and when there is an actual agreement to be had?” They do so at their own peril right now, because we will come down on them like a ton of bricks with respect to the sanctions that we control.
Said UANI CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace:
We applaud President Obama for his statement today that Iran is closed for business, and his pledge that the U.S. “will come down on” companies that enter Iran now “like a ton of bricks.” This is a clear message, and it carries great weight given the U.S.’s ability to sanction companies, freeze their assets, and bar them from U.S. capital markets.
The Obama administration should continue to send this message over the next six months, and impose harsh financial penalties on each and every company that chooses to do business in Iran.
