LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WaterTower Music today announced details of the February 11 release of The Moon Song (Music From and Inspired by the Motion Picture Her) which contains three versions of “The Moon Song” - a 2014 Academy Award Nominee for Best Original Song. It features music by Karen O and lyrics by Karen O and Spike Jonze. Her was nominated for five Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, and Best Original Song.
Two of the versions of “The Moon Song“ on this release are heard in the film: “The Moon Song (Film Version)” as performed by Scarlett Johansson and Joaquin Phoenix, along with Karen O’s performance “The Moon Song (End Title Credit).”
The release also contains a third, brand new recording of the song, which features Karen O in a duet with Ezra Koenig, singer and guitarist of Vampire Weekend. “Singing this song with Ezra felt like fulfilling a wish of my die-hard romantic junior high self,” says Karen O. “It's a dreamy tune. Spike's Her is the gift that keeps on giving. I wrote the song as a duet, I was really excited at the prospect of getting to record it with a male vocalist. Ezra was super cool and open, he slipped into character like a champ and damn he's got the goods.” This version was produced, engineered and mixed by J. Ralph, who also played guitar on the song.
Set in Los Angeles in the slight future, Her follows Theodore (Joaquin Phoenix), a complex, soulful man who makes his living writing touching, personal letters for other people. Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive and unique entity in its own right. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet “Samantha,” a bright, female voice (Scarlett Johansson) who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other. From the singular perspective of Oscar®-nominated filmmaker Spike Jonze comes Her, an original love story that explores the evolving nature—and the risks—of intimacy in the modern world.
Written and directed by Spike Jonze, the romantic drama stars Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde and Scarlett Johansson. It was produced by Megan Ellison, Spike Jonze and Vincent Landay with executive producers Daniel Lupi, Natalie Farrey and Chelsea Barnard. The director of photography was Hoyte Van Hoytema; editors, Eric Zumbrunnen and Jeff Buchanan; production designer, KK Barrett; and costume designer, Casey Storm. The music is by Arcade Fire and Owen Pallett. Her is a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation of an Annapurna Pictures Production, and is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
