NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Good fortune, happiness, wealth and longevity reign as Macy’s celebrates Lunar New Year 2014. Now through Feb. 6, select markets nationwide will host a series of special showcase events in celebration of the “Year of the Horse” featuring fashion shows, cultural dance performances, cooking demonstrations and special activities for children. In addition, a selection of stores will offer specially curated product assortments to enhance the gift-giving opportunities for customers in local markets.
“Lunar New Year is a special time of celebration for millions of our customers and employees. We join them in marking the momentous start of the ‘Year of the Horse’ with a host of initiatives that will surprise and delight,” said William Hawthorne, senior vice president of Diversity Strategies, Macy’s, Inc. “With special cultural activities, curated product assortments and sponsorship of local community events planned in major markets, Macy’s continues to demonstrate our steadfast commitment to inclusiveness and local relevancy in all aspects of our business.”
Select stores in markets including the San Francisco Bay area, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Santa Clara and Hawaii will host in-store events beginning on Jan. 18 and running through Jan. 31. In these markets, 11 stores will feature a selection of event elements including cultural dance performances such as Lion Dance parades, fashion shows, cooking demonstrations with Macy’s Culinary Council celebrity chef Ming Tsai, authentic refreshments and children’s crafts. In addition, at these events with any purchase of $75 or more, attendees will be able to receive a limited-edition Macy’s Lunar New Year tote (while supplies last and with the qualifying purchase made during the event).
As part of Macy’s on-going “My Macy’s” initiative to provide locally-relevant products to customers in specific locations, this year 50 local market stores across the nation will join the festivities by offering an increased selection of Lunar New Year-themed product. From “Year of the Horse” t-shirts in the young men’s department, special-edition cosmetics packaging in gold and red to specially-designed, Lunar New Year-branded gift cards and red envelopes, and an increased assortment of special sizes in apparel, Macy’s will be the centerpiece of the Lunar New Year celebration for customers across the country.
Macy’s Lunar New Year festivities will also extend to commemorative local advertising and window displays, as well as tourism outreach inclusive of shopping trips and events for travelers coming from China during the holiday. Macy’s will also help sponsor two of the nation’s largest Lunar New Year events including the 2014 Lunar New Year Chinatown Parade and Festival in New York on Feb. 4 and San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Festival and Parade on Feb. 15.
