ICE Canyon Appoints Paulo Vieira da Cunha to Key Leadership Role

Vieira da Cunha joins team as Economist and Head of Macro Research

NEW YORK--()--ICE Canyon today announced the appointment of Paulo Vieira da Cunha to the role of Economist and Head of Macro Research. Vieira da Cunha will be a senior member of ICE Canyon's investment team assisting in the assessment, formulation and implementation of sovereign risk, local currency, and global macro strategies.

Most recently, Vieira da Cunha was a Partner and Head of Research at EMVal Partners LP, a hedge fund focused on Emerging Markets. Between 2006-2008, he was Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil, also serving as a member of the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee and as Brazil’s deputy at G-20 summits.

Between 1998-2005, Vieira da Cunha managed and produced research on Emerging Market, first at Lehman Brothers, and later at HSBC, where he created an integrated economics and strategy team spanning New York, São Paulo, Buenos Aires and Mexico City.

Previously, Vieira da Cunha worked at the World Bank, holding numerous managerial, operational, and research positions over nearly 15 years, and is highly regarded as the World Bank’s first Lead Economist to the Russian Federation. From 1994-1997, he was the Senior Adviser in the Office of the Vice President and Chief Economist, serving under Michael Bruno and later under Joseph Stiglitz. Earlier, Vieira da Cunha was an advisor to the Secretary of Planning & Budgeting of the State of São Paulo on issues of debt management.

Vieira da Cunha currently serves as Director of the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce, a Member of the Advisory Board of the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto, and Consultant to the Independent Evaluation Office of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He graduated from the IIT Institute of Design (B.A.) and the University of California at Berkeley (Ph.D.).
