Go Canada! Send Your Support to Our Athletes!

2010 Olympic Gold Medallists Tessa Bonhomme and Kaillie Humphries team up with P&G to launch the #PGUltimateFan program at Walmart

TORONTO--()--As Canadians wait in anticipation for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games to begin, P&G Canada today launched a new program to rally support for the Canadian Olympic Team. Canadian fans can support their team simply by visiting a participating Walmart store, where they can partner with P&G to write messages of encouragement to athletes who will be competing in Sochi. All messages will be collected, sent to Sochi and displayed in the P&G Family Home for all athletes to enjoy!

“Canada is home to some of the most spirited and devoted fans in the world, especially when it comes to winter sports,” said Thom Lachman, President of P&G Canada. “As we head into the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, we’re calling on Canadians across the country to show our athletes just how proud we are and to encourage them on the path to gold.”

In January and February, P&G will invite shoppers to visit interactive P&G winter sport themed display areas in participating Walmart stores to write their messages of support for our athletes. During the Olympic Winter Games, P&G will also coordinate viewing parties at select stores so that fans can support Kaillie Humphries as she competes for gold on February 18 and 19, 2014. Fans can also share their support online by sending tweets or posting messages at facebook.com/PGEverydayCanada using the hashtag #PGUltimateFan.

“The P&G Ultimate Fan program is about how fans contribute to our athletes’ success,” said Shelley Broader, president and CEO of Walmart Canada. “It gives us all an opportunity to say thank you to the Canadian Olympic Team for their dedication and determination and to show them that win or lose, we are behind them 100%.”

P&G sponsored athlete Tessa Bonhomme shares what fans mean to her and how they have helped her evolve her play on the ice over the years. “Fan support has always been tremendously important to me and although I’m not competing this year, it was a great feeling to have so many Canadians behind me and supporting my efforts over the years,” said Bonhomme, 2010 Olympic Gold medallist and defenseman for the Toronto Furies of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League. “P&G is giving the opportunity to fans across the country to send a personal message to their favourite athletes. I’m proud to help Canadians share their love for our athletes and I hope that many people will take the opportunity to do so.”

“I'm thrilled to be part of the P&G family of athletes. This partnership is such a natural fit because I’ve been using several P&G products like Tide, Pantene and Cover Girl for years. Being constantly in the public eye, I always need to look my best, and these products play a big role in helping me do just that.”
