Advantest’s Terahertz Spectroscopic/Imaging System TAS7500 Adopted by Seoul National University

TOKYO--()--Leading semiconductor test equipment supplier Advantest Corporation (TSE: 6857, NYSE: ATE) today announced that its terahertz spectroscopic imaging system TAS7500, which utilizes Advantest’s THz wave technology, has been adopted by Seoul National University.

Advantest expects that the adoption of this system by Seoul National University will accelerate the spread of terahertz analysis technology to other universities, private-sector companies, and research facilities, driving higher demand for Advantest’s terahertz products.

“The TAS7500SP delivers ease of operation as well as performance, so we can now offer analysis capabilities to researchers working in diverse fields, such as bioscience and materials, who need access to areas of the terahertz spectrum where the difficulty of analysis was formerly prohibitive. I invite other South Korean researchers make use of the TAS75000SP technology, which can support advances in research across a wide variety of fields,” said Professor Gun-Sik Park, Director of the Center for THz-Bio Application Systems at Seoul National University.

Advantest has led the development of analysis and imaging technology utilizing terahertz waves, which lie between 0.1 and 10 THz on the electromagnetic spectrum, between the microwave and infrared wavebands. The TAS7500SP exploits the unique properties of THz waves to perform non-destructive, contact-free analysis of the interior structures of samples in solid, liquid, or powder form. It is part of the lineup of terahertz analysis systems Advantest has launched since April 2010, targeting the pharmaceutical industry among other diverse markets, which also includes the TAS7500SU and TAS7500SL, for wide-band and low-frequency analysis, respectively; the TAS7500IM 2D/3D imaging and analysis system; and the TAS7500TS, a spectroscopy and analysis platform that expands the applications of the technology by enabling free layout of the area to be measured. The company’s systems offer high performance and industry-best throughput, meeting diverse measurement needs from R&D to volume production.
