PROVO, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FreeTaxUSA.com, a competitor of TurboTax® (NASDAQ: INTU) and H&R Block® (NYSE: HRB), has released free tax software for the upcoming tax season. All major federal tax forms are supported free of cost, without any income, state or other restrictions. Complex and simple tax returns can be prepared and e-filed directly with the Internal Revenue Service for free. An optional state return can be purchased for $12.95. As an authorized IRS e-file provider, the company has filed more than 9,000,000 free federal returns with the IRS.
“We invite everyone to compare our product with other major brands. Most people will see they get the exact same refund at a fraction of the cost,” Matthew Gause, Director of Marketing, commented.
The software now supports part-year and nonresident tax returns. This allows taxpayers that lived in two or more states in 2013 to file separate state tax returns simultaneously. To help customers save time and avoid errors, the software carries forward information from the federal portion of the user’s tax return. Part-year nonresident tax filing expands the free service to even more taxpayers. The cost for state tax returns will remain one of the lowest in the industry at $12.95 per state return. FreeTaxUSA is one of the only services online to post the state filing cost clearly on the home page of their website.
Mobile versions of the software are accessible by visiting the website with any smartphone or tablet. Visitors can sign in to their account, prepare their tax return, or check their filing status using their mobile device. Completed returns are generated in PDF format and can be accessed and printed, at any time, for no additional cost.
For those needing prior year tax filing, the software supports 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008 tax years. The federal return for past year taxes, 2009-2012, is still free. State filing is between $9.95 and $12.95 depending on the year. Taxpayers can prepare, print, and file their prior year taxes using FreeTaxUSA’s online service without the need to download or install anything. Prior year tax forms are filled out using the respective year’s tax code.
