LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electro Scan Inc. has been awarded the 2013 Clean Tech Award for Best Water and Wastewater Solutions presented by The New Economy magazine in ceremonies held at the London Stock Exchange.
The New Economy is a quarterly magazine that captures the spirit of global thought leadership promoting innovation, transparency and sustainability, that reshapes the future.
Aimed at unearthing the new global clean tech elite - the champions of tomorrow – awards were announced in The New Economy’s Winter 2014 edition - one of the few periodicals authorized for distribution at the World Economic Forum held January 22-25, 2014 in Davos, Switzerland.
“We are delighted to announce Electro Scan as recipient of the 2013 Clean Tech Award for Best Water and Wastewater Solutions,” states Jan Spiegel, Editor of The New Economy magazine. “Disruptive technologies, like Electro Scan, that alter decisions often represent the biggest breakthroughs in our economy.”

“We are pleased to be recognized for our game-changing products,” states Chuck Hansen, Chairman & CEO, Electro Scan Inc. “Besides growing revenues over ten times in the last twelve months, this is a great way to start the year.”
Electro Scan’s technology overhauls the condition assessment of sewers, storm drains, and water pipes by finding & measuring defects not detected by the most advanced closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
Easily added to existing TV trucks and able to assess pipes at the rate of +50 feet (15 meters) per minute, Electro Scan automatically locates defects to the closest 0.4 inches (1 centimeter). More importantly, it provides an estimated defect flow in gallons per minute (liters per second).
Electro Scan is able to deliver an immediate return on investment by finding defects in recently relined pipes and new construction projects - previously not found by CCTV - protecting investments in CAPEX and delivery of ‘leak-free’ rehabilitation projects in accordance with ASTM F2550-13.
“CCTV will continue to be a good dry weather assessment tool to ‘see’ alignment problems, intrusions, and debris,” states Hansen, an industry expert in the field of sewer condition assessment. Prior to founding Electro Scan, Hansen was CEO & Founder of Hansen Information Technologies, a leading global provider of asset management applications for water, sewer, and highway authorities, sold to Infor Global in 2007.
“Unfortunately, CCTV’s inability to be used during wet weather conditions, poor track record in finding leaks or sources of infiltration, inconsistent defect-scoring by operators, and inability to certify rehabilitation projects as ‘leak-free,’ may have inadvertently caused utilities to incorrectly prioritize their worst pipes and unknowingly accept rehabilitation or new construction projects having serious defects,” states Hansen.
Acknowledged globally for establishing an unrivalled multimedia platform, The New Economy’s Clean Tech Awards focus on technology, energy, business and strategy that are positioned to solve important environmental challenges and help achieve sustainability.
