2014 International CES

LAS VEGAS--()--CES 2014, LVCC Central Hall Booth #10926 – Toshiba’s Digital Products Division (DPD), a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., today announced the company’s first entry into the growing Chromebook market – and the first device of its kind to feature a 13.3-inch diagonal HD display1. Sleek, lightweight and always up to date, the Toshiba Chromebook is an ideal choice for students and home users looking for a lightweight, cost-effective PC that’s easy to use, easy to manage and convenient for everyday use. Priced at just $279.99 MSRP2, the Toshiba Chromebook will be available for purchase from US retailers beginning in February.

“We see great potential in Chrome OS as it offers both consumers and educators a simple and easy-to-use computing experience,” said Carl Pinto, vice president of marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. “We believe that bringing a more versatile 13-inch model to market will help drive the entire category forward by giving customers an option that opens new doors for productivity, not only for consumers, but also students and educators.”

Sized Right for Work and Play

The Toshiba Chromebook features a 13.3-inch diagonal HD TruBrite™ display with a native 1366 x 768 screen resolution, offering more room for web browsing, document creation, video chatting and apps than a tablet and is better suited for productivity – just like a laptop. A full-size Chrome-optimized keyboard and spacious touchpad makes getting work done a cinch online with an increasing number of productivity-driven apps like Gmail, Calendar, Docs and more that enable users to continue working even when not connected.

“The Toshiba Chromebook will super-charge productivity for consumers, schools and businesses, with its 13-inch screen and long battery life,” said Caesar Sengupta, vice president of product management, Google. “With this new addition to the Chromebook family, consumers have even more choices at very affordable prices.”

Speedy Performance with All the Essentials

The new Toshiba Chromebook was designed from the ground up, weighing just 3.3 pounds and featuring a slim 0.8-inch profile sporting a sleek new design with a textured finish. A Haswell-based Intel® Celeron™ processor3 plus 2GB of RAM4 and a 16GB solid state drive5 deliver versatile performance, ultra-fast start up time and a long battery life of up to nine hours6. An everyday cloud companion, the device is equipped with 100GB Google Drive storage7 out of the box enabling a storage place for files and media that can be easily synced, shared and accessed across other smartphone and computing devices. This Chromebook is also equipped with laptop essentials for greater usability, including two USB 3.0 ports8, a full-size HDMI® port, security lock slot and a memory card reader, plus Bluetooth® 4.0 and dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi®.

Hassle-free Maintenance

Chromebooks are designed with security in mind, which helps keep users safe from viruses and malware without having to buy and install security software separately. They also update themselves automatically, for free, so they get faster, more efficient and more feature-rich over time.

Availability

The Toshiba Chromebook will be available beginning February 16, 2014 at major retailers, e-tailers and direct from Toshiba at Toshiba.com/us.
